About Alan Klevan
Since November 1, 2003, I have been happily practicing law with my wife, Bryna, in Wellesley, Massachusetts, not far from Wellesley College. I wasn’t entirely certain I’d make it this far in the law.
I graduated Suffolk University School of Law in 1990 with not a clue as to what I was going to do. Certainly I knew torts, contracts, property and a variety of topics, but didn’t know what an Interrogatory was, or any form of discovery for that matter. I entered a Boston law firm after having served a few months as a Special Assistant District Attorney in Middlesex County with pretty much the same scintilla of practice knowledge. My stay in Boston was professionally and financially fruitful. However, with two kids, and a third on the way, I began to grown increasingly anxious, and it became heard to bear the commute to and from work, which sometimes was an hour each way. The problem was that I knew how to practice law, but didn’t know how to manage my practice.
It was October of 2000 when I met Dustin Cole, then of Atticus, now of Attorneys Master Class. During an intense two-day workshop with Dustin (my wife was scheduled to be induced on the third day, so I missed that session), I realized that I needed a change. While I loved my colleagues in Boston (and still do), I set a plan to implement the practice strategies learned that weekend.
Unfortunately, I didn’t fully listen to Dustin.
I soon joined a law firm closer to my home. However, rather than trust myself and form the practice I wanted to run, I joined some colleagues, figuring that, while I would be responsible for my caseload, I would continue to learn from some of the finest attorneys in Massachusetts. While the experience was certainly fruitful, it was not the dream I had discussed with Dustin.
After a little over a year in Newton, my wife and I formed Klevan & Klevan, LLP in Wellesley. This firm was formed with a specific philosophy in mind - families first. Whether it is the families that my wife strives to protect in divorce proceedings, or the families I protect in my workers’ compensation practice, or the families who are so important to our staff, it is our care for families which assist us in striving towards our respective work-life balances.
In order to better serve my clients, I did a work-reshuffling and streamlined my practice such that I now handle primarily serious workers’ compensation and motor vehicle claims. Of course, it’s not entirely eay to determine such a case from the outset, so I take great care in ensuring any case retained by me is handled efficiently and professionally. The other half of my practice is dedicated to Law Practice Strategies, a company in which I care for very deeply and it shows in my relationships with my clients and vendors.
A little more about who Alan Klevan is - I care very deeply about attorneys practicing in Massachusetts. Far too many times I hear attorneys telling me that they love what they do but hate everything else about it - the hours, the screaming clients, the demands put on them by clients, counsel and the courts. To that end, I speak as often as possible at educational forums, primarily through my work as Chair and now Co-Chair of the Law Practice Management Section of the Massachusetts Bar Association. I have recently taken on the position of Co-Chair of the newly-formed Education Committee of the MBA, focusing on implementing the newest technologies to add a new and unmatchable dimension to the quality of programs we will deliver.
On a personal matter, I presently live in Newton with my wife Bryna and my four children, Rachel (13), Jason (11), Marcus (8) and Andrew (6). I coach my sons’ little league baseball teams and serve on the Executive Board and am a Vice President of Temple Reyim in Newton, Massachusetts. If I’m not home cooking, other than finding me at The Orchards country club in South Hadley, Massachusetts, you may find me traveling, most likely to Sebago Lake, Maine (the picture above is from our summer “office”), or some pristine sandy beach way down south somewhere.
